Classification of degradable plastics
Photodegradable plastic
Photosensitizers are incorporated into plastics to gradually degrade the plastic under sunlight. It belongs to the earlier generation of degradable plastics, and its disadvantage is that the degradation time is difficult to predict due to sunshine and climate change, so it is impossible to control the degradation time.
Biodegradable plastic
Under the action of microorganisms, it can be completely decomposed into low molecular compound plastics. Its characteristics are convenient storage and transportation, as long as it is kept dry, no light is needed, and it has a wide range of applications. It can be used not only in agricultural mulch, packaging bags, but also in medicine. With the development of modern biotechnology, biodegradable plastics have received more and more attention and have become a new generation of research and development hotspots.
PHA degradable plastics are the best among biodegradable plastics, and due to their high cost and complicated production process, they are still in the starting stage of the market. In 2010, the world's PHA production capacity was less than 80,000 tons, of which the Metabolix company in the United States had a production capacity of approximately 50,000 tons, accounting for more than 60% of the market. Chinese companies are also on the front of PHA's production process and R&D. Tianjin Guoyun Biomaterials Co., Ltd. owns 10,000 tons of PHA production capacity, Ningbo Tianan has 2,000 tons of production capacity, and Shenzhen Yikeman Biotechnology Co., Ltd. has 5000 Tons of capacity. Kaneka Corporation of Japan and PHBIndustrial Corporation of Brazil are also typical representatives of the PHA industry. These companies are all promoters of the PHA industry. Although the application of PHA is relatively limited, Metabolix's annual actual sales volume does not exceed 100 tons, but with the The gradual expansion of future downstream applications, especially in the film packaging, agricultural film, edible tableware, non-woven fabrics and other industries further mature, PHA has a huge market potential.
Light/biodegradable plastic
A class of plastics that combine photodegradation with microbes, and it has the characteristics of both light and microbially degradable plastics.
Water degradable plastic
Adding water-absorbing substances in plastic can be dissolved after being used in water. It is mainly used for medical and health appliances (such as medical gloves) and is easy to destroy and disinfect.
